The excitement of corn dogs, rides, animals and more came to this year’s Kern County Fair. This year’s theme was “Treat Yourself” and ran from September 20th – October 1st. The fair features a wide range of activities, including livestock exhibitions, carnival rides, food vendors, live music performances, and various competitions. It is a family-friendly event that provides entertainment and educational opportunities for people of all ages.
Priscila Ramirez, a ninth grader, loves attending the fair in Bakersfield. She finds the tickets affordable but thinks the food and games are overpriced. Her favorite part about the fair is “the food, especially funnel cakes, hotdogs, and corn dogs”. She enjoys going on rides and playing games with her friends and boyfriend. However, she finds the fair too crowded and wishes for more affordable options. Ramirez advises first-time visitors to bring water and a backpack. She has been attending the fair for six years and spends over $100 each time.
Cisahlee Meriwether, a ninth grader and a regular fairgoer, finds the fairly expensive, costing $20-$40. However, she is still excited about it, particularly for the rides, food, and funnel cake. She brings her friends. She also advises first-timers to “refrain from eating before the rides” .Cisahlee suggests adding more rides and food to the fair but dislikes the high costs. She has been attending for a few years and enjoys riding, walking around, and making memories with her brother and friends.
A ninth-grade student, Allison Henriquez, is excited about the fair because of the rides. Her favorite part of the fair is the rides and food, which she enjoys with her family and friends. She suggests making the rides shorter to attract more visitors. For first-time visitors, she advises them to expect crowds. She has been going to the fair since “she was one, and her favorite memory is going every year with her parents”. The only downside she mentions is the long lines for the rides. She recommends adding something to the fair but needs to specify what.
