When the school year started, there were multiple Instagram pages popping up about the students at Ridgeview. These pages were to spread anonymous tips about students and post them online. No one knows who is behind the pages. It’s anonymous. I think these pages are starting to get taken too far because of the invasive and damaging things people are posting about students.
These pages invade the students at Ridgeview privacy. Students should be able to feel free but even being at home they have to worry about what and who is going to say things about them. Home should be a place to catch a break from school because we are always at school, 5 days a week. These Instagram pages expose students’ personal lives and everything gets instigated by other fellow students. So things that’ll be said with others’ names, sometimes it won’t even be them and everything just starts getting instigated on.
The things that get said about students could and do report back to their parents and even the school. If the school or parents wanted to they could take the Instagram pages to the school board. I’m sure the students don’t feel or seem to be pleased with what is getting said about themselves, especially the parents. Also with these Instagram accounts, if the school finds out they could contact the parents and then parents will be asking who is in charge of these accounts or believe what is getting told about their kid whether it’s true or not. Even if the students don’t want to make anything too serious, parents could. It causes problems that interfere with others that do not need to be interfered with.
These pages can start bullying and affect the ones that are getting targeted by many other fellow students. Students getting targeted at could have other things going on at home and then if they have on top, things and rumors getting said about them. It could take a toll on their mental health because many are sensitive to certain topics. Not everyone is sensitive, but many are so I think many should be careful and be aware of what they are saying because they could be the ones getting in trouble or talked about next. From there, it’s going to cause a bigger issue and it’ll just grow and grow until someone can actually have enough of it.
I do think these Instagram accounts are taking things too far and obviously everyone is their own person but sometimes things are too much to be doing so frequently. Especially if it’s people you are going to school with and associate with.
