As we all know the Superbowl is a huge year-round event and with all the football fans talking about what teams are going and who they think is going to win, the game gets a lot of attention. With that, what else gets attention because of this game? Advertising during the Superbowl game is very popular and a great way for brands to advertise their products, and get millions of people to see and hear about them. Whether it’s a new company or one we continue to see every year, getting an ad during the Superbowl game can always be beneficial to companies.
While getting to advertise your company in a short commercial break it can also cost a lot of money. For a 30-second commercial in the Superbowl, a company would have to pay about seven million dollars and follow strict guidelines. Some of the rules include not using the words Super Bowl or Super Sunday, not using a player’s name or talking about specific teams, and lastly, trying and stay away from incorporating the NFL logo or any team’s logo into your material. With how much an ad costs and the guidelines that are to be followed is an ad really worth it?
A few students on campus discussed what they think about Super Bowl advertising. Ashyah Sang, a junior here at Ridgeview says, “I watch football like once or twice a month, and the ads I notice the most are the ones about food.” Sang also states, “I think that ads do benefit the Super Bowl by giving them more money, and I think that the Super Bowl would be more popular without ads because people don’t really care to watch ads or commercials.” In this case, both parties benefit when commercials are included in the game. While it may be expensive for a company to purchase an ad they are reaching a huge audience and the Super Bowl is also profiting millions of dollars from it as well.
Savanah Dickerson another student here at Ridgeview High School shares, “ I watch football sometimes and would say Pepsi is the most popular ad because it’s the one I notice the most.” Dickerson then states, “ I don’t think ads take away from the game because we normally see ads during halftime or when the game isn’t in action.” Xavier Chaplin mentions that he also remembers seeing Pepsi and M&M ads the most. He then goes on to share, “I think the Superbowl would still be popular without the ads because it’s a big event no matter what.” Lastly, he states, “The way they advertise is good because they capitalize off of a big event.”
The Superbowl would still be a big event with or without advertising, but for the companies that pay for an ad every year, it must be benefiting them because the same companies continue to have a commercial every year.
