Girls’ basketball faces a noteworthy season for this school year, placing 3-1 in league and having an overall record of 11-9. The girls are anxious to get more wins under their belts in the last few games they have as well as continuing to grow and get better with each practice.
Coach Eric implies that this season’s team has faced ups and downs this season trying to improve in both skill, attitude, and team chemistry; the team has a sufficient amount of skill and technique yet figuring out how to use it together as a team is their biggest obstacle.
Senior, Kenadi Walton, shooting guard on the girls’ team, states the team’s biggest challenge has been really coming together as a team and building that team chemistry. One of the team’s biggest opponents has been Bakersfield Christian High School specifically for this reason. “Just their chemistry and their coach, I’ve heard good things about her too and just the way that she knows how and what’s going to work for them so they have that better opportunity ”, states Walton.
Last season’s team made it to the playoffs winning their first game against Paso Robles. It wasn’t until their second game that they lost in a close-call game against Fresno. Singletons’ hope for this season’s playoffs is to make it past at least the second game of playoffs.
Team-mate Aubrey Alden also has an objective to accomplish all that she can for their next few games. “ I hope to accomplish a lot more wins and team compatibility and better attitudes and just stay focused and be able to go far in the playoffs.” Alden has been playing basketball for eight to nine years with three years on Varsity as well as captain for her senior year. Feeling both excited and confident for the rest of her last high school season, she has great faith in the team that they can still accomplish much more than they already have. “Honestly I know we have a lot more potential to go farther and be better, it just depends if we actually decide to work together more and be a team” claims Aldman.
Eric Singleton also referred to as Coach Eric believes in the possibility that his players have the chance of making it to Valley. It all depends on their willingness to come together at the proper moment and play to the best of their abilities. With these upcoming games not only is it an ambition for the girls to continue growing but Singleton as well. “Just to win or lose with a fight in your heart, not give up, not be deterred by the downs to just keep getting up.”
