There are different types of award shows such as the Grammy’s, Emmy’s, Tony Awards, Oscars, etc. But throughout the years, are they still as credible as they were before? I think not and this is because film and music industries both get critiques. Mainly because of diversity, racial disparities in those nominated. Obviously everyone has their own opinion and think differently about each artist, actors and actresses, but I think that it is based on who is more popular and not as much as who is better.
I think for movies it has a lot to do with the castings that directors may choose for their next production. Many directors know that the way to draw attention to their next production is by casting the next best actors or actresses, especially if they are good-looking. But just because they are the next best thing, does that mean they will create a better performance compared to older, more experienced actors? Depending on the actor that is acting in the movie, even if they have a good reputation or not, people could just go see a movie because of who’s involved in the movie.
Now for music I think that many people go for artists that have been in the music industry longer and may have more experience, but that doesn’t mean that they are better than newer, up-coming music artists. For example, Beyonce has been in the music industry for quite some time now and has already won many awards for her music. Whereas Taylor Swift has been in the music industry for long but not as long as Beyonce. As well as Billie Eilish catching up to them both. In our generation nowadays, new and young artists know what type of music new generations are looking to listen to. Although even if many people are in favor of these new artists’ music, older artists that have been in the industry for a longer period of time receive more attention for their experience and past hits that may have came out back in the day.
Yes, there is a diversity in music depending where people are from and their culture, as well what they were raised around a certain genre of music can influence their preference in music as they get older. Such as growing up with corridos and reggaeton with Hispanic parents. But overall I don’t think award shows are as credible as they were before.
