Supposedly junior year is the hardest and the most important year during the high school years. Junior year is supposed to be the year where high schools should really prepare you for college. Where you start really thinking about the college options, whether it’s out of state or not. Taking the AP classes, the AP tests, and more honors classes. But I think that in some ways high school is preparing us but also in other ways it is not. High school can only teach you so much and you can only learn so much.
I think it’s always going to be the case of being over prepared or being under prepared. Each student is going to be prepared differently depending on their high school experience and how much effort they put into school. If you decide to slack off and not try in high school, by the time you get to college, you are most definitely going to be not prepared. But if you do try in high school, I think you’ll be prepared just fine. High school can only do so much to help you out, but you also have to cooperate and put in effort if you want to see yourself succeed in the near future.
Another thing is that I think it could possibly be the school you are attending. All schools have different teaching methods that could help you prepare for different things. Maybe one school focuses on math more and prepares you for more math rather than other subjects. Then another school can focus on literature more and prepare you for English related subjects. Some schools in your community may offer different elective classes which can play a huge role for your preparation and readiness for college. Some examples are art classes, anatomy classes, and agricultural classes. Even taking ROC/CTEC courses which start junior year as well. ROC/CTEC offers many courses, such as welding, medical field, agricultural field, and law enforcement. These courses can also help you figure out your path to college or for your future.
So overall I do think we are getting prepared but to a certain extent. The rest of our education is up to us and how we figure out our path for college. We decide if we want to succeed or not. All in all, we dictate our own future. Only we have the power to decide what our future is going to look like. We cannot rely on just the school education or overall to prepare us because we also have to prepare ourselves for the future because high school isn’t always going to stick around and isn’t always going to be there for us. We are only here for four years.
