The source of Pack Pride here at Ridgeview High School can be said to come from the students here at Ridgeview. Senior, Ernie Cruz also known as DJ Kaos has been DJing for eleven years now, but has been DJing school events here at Ridgeview since his sophomore year. Inspiration for the start of his DJing came from his family who exposed him to the turntables. Between the rallies and all the sporting events he comes to like football, volleyball, basketball, and baseball games, Cruz has gained a lot of recognition here at Ridgeview by students and staff. But school isn’t the only gig he books; Cruz also takes his talents to venues as big as the Mechanics Bank Arena. Cruz explains, “I perform at restaurants, the Mechanics Bank Arena, The Fox Theater, and The Kern County Fair.”
DJing is often misrepresented as only having to press a few buttons to play music. But it takes lots of time, practice, and motivation to keep doing what Cruz does. When asking Cruz what got him into DJing he shares, “My family, my parents started doing it and, so I started doing it.” What sparked his initial interest and kept his passion going was the music itself, “I would say there really is no favorite part, the music sparked my interest. It sets me in a place where I feel at peace.” Cruz spends most events at school behind the DJ table instead of participating, sacrificing what most high school students wouldn’t for his love of DJing.
Cruz has become a staple piece to the Ridgeview High School spirit bringing the energy to every school event held. When asking Cruz his plans after High School he says that he wants to continue DJing and would even think about coming back to Ridgeview for events if he was asked. Cruz then goes on to talk about how out of all the events he DJ’s here at school the football games would have to be his favorite, “It’s just the environment and the amount of people that are there that makes it my favorite.”
With it being his last year here at Ridgeview Cruz concludes that he will miss his times and memories spent here, especially those spent while getting to DJ doing what he loves. And as Ridgeview DJ Kaos will forever be a staple to students and staff at school.
