With the school year making an end, the last rally of the year is one students always looked forward to. With Ridgeview’s annual Lip Sync Rally of Battle of the Bands with all classes competing against each other. This rally was scheduled outside in the quad, with students taking the stage to show off their lip syncing abilities along with various games such as cornhole, beanbag toss, jump rope, and face painting were organized for the students’ entertainment. The senior class had taken the stage and won for another consecutive year at the Lip Sync Battle.
The ASB students organized the Lip Sync Rally which had been in the planning for about three weeks before taking the stage in front of the students at Ridgeview. Although the rally wasn’t specifically for seniors, the staff and ASB students wanted it to be a memorable event for them as Whitbey explains, “It’s kind of the last time that the seniors will be together for an event, so it’s like a farewell to the seniors.”
Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, and Senior classes chose the bands they wanted to perform to at Lip Sync. These bands included NSYNC, TLC, One Direction, Migos, Destiny Child’s, ABBA, and more! There were about six to twelve students that performed in the lipsync sing battle in total throughout all classes. Three students that participated in the lip sync battle included Courtney Davis, Kelli Mckenzie, and Erika Johnson. They had lip synced as TLC representing the junior class. One of the songs they had in their lip-sync performance was Scrubs by TLC and their dances were choreographed by one of the participants Courtney Davis. When asked why she participated in this year’s lip sync battle Davis responds, “I thought it’d be really fun and a good experience for my junior year.”
Before students performed at the rally all spring sports teams such as baseball, softball, track, swimming, boys golf, and boys tennis were acknowledged on the stage. As well as a special guest performance from Ridgeviews staff member Mr. Singh. Music for the lip sync battle was provided by DJ Kaos. However, group leaders from each of the bands chose out the music. Each band played three songs with a limit of one minute per song. Alex Abboud explains, “I liked the music they chose. They’re really popular songs that everyone can get along to.”
The highlight of this rally was the lip sync battle however, students were welcome to play any of the games provided. Similar to the carnival, students were offered the same games and had more freedom regarding what they chose to participate in or what games they’d like to play. And ending the rally was a victorious win for the senior class ending out their last rally with a win.
