A sweet treat can be close to everyone’s guilty pleasures whether it be ice cream, or brownies there is that one dessert you just can’t live without. Toasted is a breakfast, brunch and lunch restaurant that has been open in Bakersfield for some time now. They are always fairly busy and seem to be a hit in the breakfast category, but what about when it comes to deserts? Toasted had been hosting their After Hours menu which includes many desert items like milkshakes, crepes, funnel cakes, churros, and more. I had to see myself just how good these items truly are.
After Hours is open Tuesday through Sunday from 4:30-8:30 p.m. I went this past Sunday around seven in the evening and it wasn’t too busy . I was able to walk right in and be seated at a table, but that had nothing to do with the quality of the food. I ordered an Oreo Blast milkshake and within no time it was brought to my table for me to enjoy. Before even getting into the desert itself I immediately was drawn to its presentation. With frosting covering the rim of the glass and an oreo bits sticking to it, and a bug churro with whipped cream and a cherry on top, it definitely made you want to eat it even more. Once finally drinking the milkshake itself it was everything I expected it to be. With the right amount of flavor and the perfect consistency of the milkshake was delightful and easy to drink.
In addition to its wonderful taste, the customer service was just as good. There was no rush in ordering and or leaving the restaurant. The waitress was very welcoming considering it was my first time there, asking what my favorite desserts are and making recommendations based on what my favorites are, as well as offering their best sellers. Customer service is very important because it’s what ensures that customers come back. If dealing with a bad waitress it can make the experience at the restaurant substandard. My experience at After Hours was the complete opposite of substandard.
Jesse Gonzales who accompanied me on the experience says, “My first-time experience at After Hours was good, I liked my Horchata milkshake,” Gonzales describes the shake to be, “fire and I would recommend it if you plan on going.” After Hours was able to bring a new and unique experience to Toasted. Although from the looks of it, you may stumble upon Toasted at night, upon entering you’ll soon realize that After Hours brings in something that sets it apart from the normal Toasted experience.
The prices start at around six dollars for a drink such as lemonade and go up depending on what you order, so it doesn’t get too pricey and it is quite affordable. I had a great overall experience and will definitely be returning. If you have been persuaded to go see what After Hours is about, mention it being your first time to your waiter and they might even give you a coupon for the next time you come back.
