Girls’ Volleyball is thriving this season, with an outstanding record of 14-4. Their goal this year is to make it farther in the playoffs than they did last year.
Senior, Savannah Dickerson says, “There is nothing that is not fun about volleyball.” Dickerson has been playing volleyball at Ridgeview High School since she was a freshman. Watching college volleyball was a big inspiration for her as she pursued the sport. She describes her team camaraderie this season as being very strong. According to Dickerson, “It’s way stronger than it’s been in the last couple of years.” The toughest opponent that she believes the team will encounter this year is Bakersfield Christian High School because they are potentially hard to beat every year. As a team, she believes that if they can keep high spirits and properly prepare they will be able to overcome their toughest opponent.
Senior, Ashlyn Morris has been playing volleyball since she was in middle school. According to Morris, “The need and the want to be better.” Her motivation for volleyball comes from the drive she has to be better. This year she believes their toughest opponent to be Independence High School because they have always been a rival school for Ridgeview.. Morris states, “With already playing them in pre-league it’s been pretty tough.” She favors her team’s camaraderie and believes it to be a very important aspect of her team’s success. With that said, communication is something she has faith will help the team defeat their toughest opponent. A common goal she has is to make it farther in the playoffs than they did last year. She believes the best way to accomplish this goal is through communication and problem-solving as a team.
This year Ridgeview’s girls’ Volleyball coach Melissa Murillo, has been coaching at Ridgeview for two years. Her reason for coaching volleyball is the love she has for the sport. Murrillo states, “I love volleyball, I have played volleyball since I was a child.” Her favorite part of coaching volleyball is watching the growth of her players from tryouts to the end of the season. Coach Murillo adds that girls’ Volleyball did a great job during the summer league. She appreciated their effort off the court as she could see that they executed the skills she stressed for them to work on. She believes that the teams’ strengths this season are camaraderie, communication, and encouragement. She is confident that the team will go very far this year. According to Murrillo, “I think we have a strong crew and we are going to make it to the playoffs.”
This year the Ridgeview girls’ volleyball is thriving because of their strong bond and sense of camaraderie. As a whole, they believe that they will be able to defeat their toughest opponents through communication and togetherness.
