Holidays are important celebrations because they allow families to come together for a special occasion and create memories that will last a lifetime. However, the magic of the holidays seems to be fading with each year that goes by with these day’s now beginning to feel like any other day of the year it leaves many to wonder if the holiday spirit is now slowly fading away. I believe holidays should be a time where you sit, relax, and bond with your family family, not something you should be stressing about due to the finances of throwing a thanksgiving feast, or straining to buy last minute Christmas gifts.
Recently holidays haven’t been feeling like they used to before. There seems to be not as much happiness or excitement for them. Now they just feel as if they are just something you wake up and get ready for. One of the reasons the holidays might be dying down is due to stress and money due to holidays getting very pricey compared to how it was now to then. In my opinion the holidays don’t feel like the holidays. Kids do not appear to be as excited for holidays such as Christmas or Halloween as they were just half a decade ago. Just this pass Halloween, you didn’t really see many kids dressing up for, there was no staying up ‘till twelve A.M for extra candy. It felt like all the excitement for Halloween had just gone with the wind, it was just like every other October day.
The same phenomenon is starting to affect Christmas. There seems to be no more happiness when the season comes around. It isn’t really about giving gifts and being with family, its about finding the best gift, and waiting to see what other people get you. You don’t really see the Christmas lights now, or the light shows. Where are the lines of people in the mall to take a picture with Santa, you don’t see that anymore as much as you used to back then. I love the Christmas spirit, but you don’t really see other people enjoying the Christmas time as much as before, you get to be with your family and the ones you love to celebrate the gift of giving.
Although it is not only Christmas and Halloween it’s also Easter you don’t see Easter egg hunting as much as you used to. Where did the egg hunts in the park go. Where are the little bunny pictures and the eggs you dye and write on? I believe phones also have a big role in this due to being on them all the time. You can’t enjoy the little holidays as much as you used to when you were younger. You don’t see that holiday spirit anymore although we don’t see the holidays as we used to. I know there is still love for the holidays although we don’t see the love as much as we once did. I know the love is still there if you look hard enough, you will still see the light shows and the costumes.
I overall do believe that this year’s holiday spirit has been more off than usual even though I noticed that the holidays seemed to be fading with each passing year. We still can be able to cherish traditions and the spirit we still have. It is not about the gifts and decorations, it is about the joy and happiness that is put into it.
