As the season has already started, the boys’ basketball team is giving it their all, as all of the players try to work hard to get to playoffs and hopefully win, coming back home to Ridgeview as champions! They are currently being led by Coach Michael Martin, who seems to be leading the team towards success and hopefully, victory!
The entire team seems to be motivated and having fun, as most players said that their team chemistry was amazing, and that they, as a team, had no weaknesses on the court! “I don’t think we have any team weaknesses… We could really do everything. Like I said, we hustle so I mean, that’s what’s going to take us far away,” said Devan Corado, a senior on the team.
The team also seems to be excited and prepared, as when asked, most players said that they’ve been playing basketball for a while before getting on the team. Of course, there’s also the motivation from coach Martin, but as some of the players said, another fuel was the nostalgia.
Martin also seems to be making sure that the players are going to put their best into this, as he stated, “I try to maximise effort. By getting the top of the effort, we can work well as a team.” says Martin. He tries to push his players to their best, and making sure that no one is ever slacking off. In his ten years of coaching just boys’ basketball to be specific, he’s learned how to make his players the best they can be.
Another advantage that the basketball team has is that the team is filled with both seasoned veterans and new recruits, all coming together to form a well oiled machine, or at least, working hard to form it. They seem to be working quite hard, but that won’t stop the boys’ from having fun!
Even though practice is hard, all the players expressing the high amount of running, they’re still steadfast in their goals to win this season. No matter how hard practice gets, the boys seem to enjoy the fact that they get to hang around their friends as a team, and have fun themselves. However, that doesn’t mean that being a part of the team is all fun and games. “Practice really consists of just really running and working hard. Like, if we’re not working hard, he’s really just gonna make us run. If we’re not making shots, he’s gonna make us run..,” said Robert Gonzalez, who expressed having a lot of fun in basketball, and saw it as an amazing chance to connect with other people.
Although, as much fun as they’re having, they seemed to be a bit cocky, as stated before, saying their team had no weaknesses whatsoever. Hopefully they’ll be able to stay level headed long enough to not let it go to their heads, if they have any problems fixing them, and continuing to improve, not settling for mediocre or pretty good.
The basketball teams devotion and excitement are clear to see as they move further and further into their season, and hopefully they can keep that amount of energy the entire season! With a mix of motivations, fun, hard work and effort, etc, the team is ready to go as far as they can this season, and not go down without a fight! The boys’ basketball team seem to be quite excited for the challenge, and they are more than ready to give it their all, and maybe even some more.
