This year’s girls’ soccer team is respectable. They are working on having a strong team bond and understanding the game together. They are hard workers and are ready to show their talents this season.
Junior Taylor Torres has been playing soccer for eight years now. “I just have a really good passion for the sport and I just fell in love with it at an early age.” Torres was inspired to play soccer by her dad, he was always there to push her and is even coaching her club team allowing him to continue with his inspiration. She transferred to Ridgeview in her sophomore year and has been playing soccer here since. “Ridgeview has a really good environment and coaching staff and it makes you want to push yourself more.” Her friends and her family have been a very big motivation to her in the sport. They have pushed her to be her best so far. Torres explains the team lacks a bit of chemistry, however the team is full of hardworking girls’. Torres believes Bakersfield Christian High School will be the toughest opponent of the season. “They have a really good team and a lot of new transfers,” she added. According to Torres, the team will prepare for their toughest opponent by working on their positioning.
Sophomore, Sophia Espinoza has been playing soccer at Ridgeview for two years. One strength she has is her ability to communicate on the field. Outside of practice and games, she watched films to improve her skills. She also believes that the toughest opponent of the season will be Bakersfield Christian High School or Highland High School. “Both teams are pretty stacked this year,” said Espinoza. To prepare for their toughest opponent. She states, “The team has been taking practice more seriously and making sure everyone is there.” One goal Espinoza has this year is to make the league. She is going to accomplish this goal by taking every game seriously.
Coach Andres Murrillo has been coaching girls’ soccer at Ridgeview for twelve years. According to Murrillo, “The best part about coaching is seeing the girls’ transform from Divas to warriors every time they step on the pitch.” Murrillo was inspired to coach by his eldest daughter. “I saw how she was trained and coached and I knew I could do better, so I started volunteering at the Sunday leagues.” Murrillo believes the team has a few strengths this year. Those being experience, talent, and camaraderie. His philosophy on team bonding is that the team needs to respect one another and be open-minded. According to Murrillo, “I could predict that we will make the playoffs and we’ll advance to the championship game in Division 4.” Murrillo’s number one goal for his players is to make sure they give their all and become better players than the day before. Coach Murrillo also believes that the team’s toughest opponent this year will be Highland High School because the new players have a lot of speed and talent.
Girls’ soccer is preparing for their toughest opponents and getting ready for the league. With a build of camaraderie and plenty of continuous hard work, they will accomplish their goals.
