This year Ridgeview’s annual Formal theme was “Take Me to the Twenties” inspired by the Great Gatsby. The event was held on Saturday January 18th at The Lux Event Center.
Ridgeview’s Formal is planned and coordinated by Ridgeview’s ASB and Activities Director, Deb Whitbey. When coming up with the theme Whitbey stated, “Last year we had our ASB students pitch there ideas and create Pinterest boards. From there we voted on ideas, where ultimately a Great Gatsby theme was chosen.” This years formal was Whitbey’s second formal as Activities Director. When asked was she would change Whitbey states, “One thing we reimplemented this year from last year was the VIP section. We wanted seniors and other students to have that special section for them.”
Senior Kelli McKenzie, was one of the formal royalty finalists. “Its been a childhood dream of mine to run for school dance royalty, I knew I wanted to run for royalty at one of the school dances, so when I saw the application for Formal Royalty me and my friend Jameson, decided to run together” states Mckenzie. Some of Mckenzie’s campaign strategies included posting frequently on social media and just spreading the word of their campaign. Mckenzie ultimately went on to win Formal Queen later that night alongside Jameson Powell as Formal King.
Mia Franco, ASB President, has played a key role in the planning and execution process of Ridgeview’s Formal. Franco states, “This year we implemented our VIP seating at formal. We had it for prom last year and thought it would be a great thing to add to Formal. It was a great turn out.” This year ASB added something else different to their ticket sales, a flash sale. Franco also states, “Flash sales usually draw more attention to what’s being sold. So once discussed with the other officers we make a one-time post and that then gets the messages spread through our social media accounts and brings in more sales for the ones that see it. So, make sure to follow @letsgo_wolfpack for more flash sales and information on other school events!”
