The Ridgeview Wolf Pack varsity volleyball team is making waves this season, showcasing grit, teamwork, and plenty of heart on the court! With the season now well underway, the team has fought through tough matchups, like with Bakersfield Christian High School, proving they’re ready to compete with anyone who steps across the net! They’re currently being led by Varsity Coach Melissa Murillo, who’s working her very best for her players.
The entire team seems to be motivated and seem to have amazing team chemistry, as when asked about their coordination and teamwork, junior player Brooklyn Ruffus stated, “We get along really well, and like, we always have fun at practice and our games. It’s like I want to go to practice, like, after school and stuff!”
The team also seems to be finding quite success in their practice and learning methods, most players said that they’ve been learning quite a bit of volleyball by themselves, and while coach Melessia did have good advice, decided to stick to their ways, which so far, seems to be turning out extremely well!
Another advantage is that the volleyball team appears to be filled with mostly seasoned veterans, all either having 2-4 years of experience under their belts, quite easily forming an amazing team and system that relies on skill and practice to execute, which isn’t hard for them. What’s even better is that next year, as most of the volleyball players aren’t seniors, it seems only one spot for volleyball will be needed! “I can see the talent in them, and they’ve gotten so much better, attitude wise, and on the floor. It’s amazing.” said Coach Murillo.
Even though practice is hard, the girls seem to enjoy practice, even being excited by the idea of coming to practice, getting to have an excuse to work with friends towards an amazing goal. Amira Dhindsa said, “It consists of a lot of, like, drills…not like bonding activities but like, just to make sure we stay close with each other and, like, to work on any errors we made the previous game.”
Most players have quite unique attributes and functions, making every player on the court quite important, as even without one card, the entire house can tumble. Sky Dubon says her ability to use her intelligence on the court is her strength. “I would say being smart…like, IQ on the court, I would say.”
The players are actually quite humble, saying how they did have weaknesses they were working on, and recognized them and took responsibility for those weaknesses, something that not every athlete can say.
The volleyball team’s determination and perseverance so far are keeping them on the straight and narrow, as they move further and further into their season, hoping to come back to Ridgeview as the best! With a mix of humility, connection, hard work, and effort, the team is ready to go as far as they can, hoping that their chariot will not be stopped any time soon! The varsity volleyball team seems to be quite prepared for the endeavors they will soon face, and let’s hope that their journey doesn’t end prematurely.
