Does a year make a difference? If you ask the Ridgeview Boys’ Basketball team they will say yes. Last years’ team had a record of 6-18 overall and 3-7 in league. After losing eight players to graduation this years’ squad is looking towards the future. This year’s basketball team says they are like a family and pass the ball more and communicate more.
Most of the boys’ on this year’s team started playing basketball when they were young. Senior, Deshon Williams, who plays center for the team says, “I grew into loving the sport at a young age.” Williams began playing when he was years old when his dad taught him the game?? Another senior, Alex Sandoval, who plays small forward, also started playing the game he has enjoyed ten years ago.
The boys’ team will have some stiff competition this season having Independence and BCHS in their league. The team feels that the toughest this season are the teams in Fresno. Williams says, “To me the toughest opponents will be Fresno or any other out of town team because they play with a different energy.”
The squad this year is hoping to make a playoff run. “I think we can make a deep playoff run this season,” said Williams. Sandoval added, “The team will do good this season. We should be solid.” Sandoval and Williams both agree that it will take heart, hard work and dedication to get to this point. This season so far the boys are 0-0 overall beating teams like West Minister.
