Every year in the spring, Ridgeview’s Associated Student Body plans and organizes Prom. Ridgeview’s annual prom “City of Stars” will be held on Saturday, April 5th. The dance will be held at the Lemcoto Venue, the first time any school in the Kern High School District.
With prom being organized by the Junior class and Associated Student Body, this year’s Junior Class President, Mckenzie Cabral, played a big role in this year’s prom. When planning prom, Cabral states, “We had to have lots of meetings, approve vendors, find a DJ, find a photo booth and just find the venue.” Cabral also stated, “Something new we will be implementing is gonna be our first year implementing a freestyle DJ, so we are really excited about that.” Some old things from previous dances that students can expect to see again are the VIP section, as well as the VIP photo booth.
Ridgeview’s Activities Director, Deb Whitbey, plays a key role in helping organize this year’s prom. When asked about how many students will be attending Whitbey states, “We would like anywhere from five to 600 students, that is our hope. Whitbey also stated, “We are going to be doing flash sales… we aren’t for sure on the particular day, but we will forsure have one.” From the perspective of Whitbey, the planning process included, “They were checking prom themes online, thinking about colors, and what colors they wanted and would go with the theme. So they took about three weeks to pick a theme.” Whitebey also states, “Those who are in the VIP section, will have a new snack or specialty drink. We talked about serving ice cream, you know something new.”
Kaiya Stowe, Junior class Vice-President, also played a key role within the Junior class on deciding and planning this year’s prom. When asked about how the theme was decided, Stowe stated, “We were thinking about this last year, this theme would be nice, we like the colors.” The process, according to Stowe, involved “our whole working together and deciding on what we wanted to incorporate.”
