Reymundo Marquez is a dedicated senior here at Ridgeview High School, balancing his academics and a variety of extracurricular activities. Marquez has been an active member of ASB since his sophomore year, playing a key role in organizing school events, encouraging school spirit, and overall fulfilling his role as a leader. Alongside being in ASB, Marquez is also the president of the Hiking club, he works in the student store, and during lunch he helps out in our concession stand in the quad. To many he’s a dependable face on campus. But behind his steady presence lies quiet ambition, and a family-rooted repsonsibility of being the oldest and carrying the role of a leader not only on campus.
Leadership doesn’t come easy. Like many students Marquez admits he once was very shy. “I have no idea what happened between freshman year and now I’ve sort of evolved and being involved in school definitely helped me grow and it allowed me to be from a closed off person to now here I am at rallies, talking, and planning everything around school” says Marquez. ASB is an Associated Student Body where a handful of students each have a role to help school life be more fun and spirited. “One experience my sophomore year was that I accidentally tackled the ASB president and that really jump started my ASB career and it helped me break out of my shell,” stated Marquez when asked how he came to be a part of the student body. With ASB being a big part of Marquez’s high school experience, he hopes to continue the extracurriculars in higher education.
Marquez is the oldest of his siblings, a title that he says shaped his leadership skills before he even set foot in high school. “Dealing with home life and being the oldest I’ve learned to be a leader…so I kind of have a sense of what the real world is like,” he says. The early responsibility has translated into the way he carries himself on campus: focused, and quietly taking charge when others hesitate.
One of Marquez’s most exciting projects at the moment is aimed at sports security getting paid for. “I asked the district to do funds for security for sports and it has gone around the district and we are hoping to get it paid for.” It is a bold idea , and Marquez is treating it with the seriousness of someone already thinking like an engineer which, is what he hopes to become.
“My plans after graduation are hopefully to become a mechanical engineer,” says Marquez. “I think this career choice kinda stemmed from me always being curious as a kid and my interest in building things” Marquez mentions.
As his senior year comes to an end, Marquez has valued the Ridgeview community for four years now, and his advice for class of 2026 is “Just keep on going, it won’t stop, it will never stop, but keep on pushing through.”
