The track season has only just started, and the Ridgeview Track and Field team have been working their very best to try and make it to the top. They expect to have the toughest time against Bakersfield High School and Highland, but still have hope, and are being led by Coach Chris Arguello and Coach Triandous Hobson, acting with determination and hope.
The track players all have good connections, amazing chemistry, and great bonding when things get rough. They help each other when things get rough and share tips and advice with one another, Dylan Manasan, specifically saying, “They’re nice people. They’re good people. They goof a bit, but it’s a sport, it’s gonna happen.”
Practice also seems to be running efficiently, as when asked about her opinion on the future of the season and what she wanted to accomplish, Yuridia Rivas-Sandoval said, “I think it’s gonna be pretty good…I wanna run faster than last year…I would just want to be the best person I can in and out of the sport.”
The new recruits on the team seem to be showing great potential and power, to be able to make up for the seasoned veterans that left last year. When asked about their future, junior Victoria Smith-Chaplin said, “I think that there is a lot of potential. I think they’re definitely working hard getting ready…So I think everybody’s working really hard…And excited to compete and putting all their work in.”
Even though the season has just gotten off the ground and started to take off, the track team is showing their need to run through the finish line, as Hobson put it, and not backing down. “My greatest little metaphor that I’ve picked up is to run through the finish line. A lot of people in life don’t try their hardest, and then they get mad with the results. So, I hope my kids learn how to become better people…”
Hobson also encourages others to join them in track, as he does express it’s hard but does help you in the long run, in school and also outside of school. “I think track literally changed my life. I think if you ask my track kids, a lot of them, a lot of the seniors and juniors will sit there and say, like, it’s gonna benefit. Just give it a try.”
With momentum on their side, the Ridgeview track and field team is trying their very hardest to continue to surge past the rest of the competition, and break records, as everyone is trying their hardest to become better and bigger than last year. No matter how long they’ve been there, everybody is showing their own form of motivation, be it record breaking or showing progress, and they all continue to work and practice and with that, and a little bit of luck, hopefully they’ll be able to soar this season and thrive, here and in later times of their life.
