Senior year marks the final chapter of a track and field journey, and for Keyli Colbert as a thrower, it’s where her hard work, strength, and dedication all comes together. After years of practice, intense training, and constant improvement in events like shot put and discus, this season represents both a celebration of progress and a push to finish strong. Being a senior thrower isn’t just about personal records, it’s about leadership, setting an example for younger athletes, and making every meet count. As this final season comes to an end, the goal is clear to leave a lasting impact on the team, and make every throw meaningful.
Colbert mentions that she will possibly continue this sport at the University of Northridge, She states, “Yes I’ve been looking into it, but it really just depends on my schedule.” Colbert became a thrower, because, “All my cousins did it, and Marcus made me do it. But I ended up liking it, so it’s fine,” she says. She loves the community and the culture that everyone brings to the team. One of her favorite memories this season was, “When my coach had me, Dravin and Zayden looking for a Doordash driver and he wasn’t even there,” she mentioned. Colbert’s personal record as of right now is 86.43 in disc, and 29.2 in shot, she plans to break this record before the season is over. As the Colbert season comes to an end she says it is a very bittersweet moment and how she will miss the people the most.
Coach Greg Dabbs has been teaching Colbert for three years. One improvement he has seen in her is her leadership role, “With the team she holds everyone accountable,” says Dabbs. According to him, Colbert always brings a positive attitude to practice, is always happy and wants others to get better, not just herself. One of her most memorable performances Dabbs says so far in her season has been when she threw almost 90 feet in discus, and 30 feet in shotput. “She has improved and everything since freshman year showing up on time, putting in work, getting better, being accountable,” he states. Dabbs says that she makes him want to be a better coach. As she graduates, Dabbs advice to her is, “Enjoy the little moments, because life goes fast.”
Colbert senior track season is more than just a series of throwers and results it’s about all the years of dedication, and growth. As the season comes to an end Colbert will leave behind lasting memories, deep friendships, and a sense of pride in how far each senior has come. While this chapter closes, the lessons learned on the track discipline, determination, and teamwork will help guide Colbert through her college season.
