This year, the Ridgeview Boys’ basketball team is excited to start the 25-26 season. They are young, but full of talent and dedication.
Senior Ramon Leon has been playing basketball at Ridgeview for four years now. His motivation for the sport comes from his drive and determination to succeed, as well as his family. His goal this season is to help his team win the Valley Championship this year and make the All-Star team. Leon notes that this year the team is fairly young compared to last year. He believes camaraderie is important for success, so he states, “Overall, it is good. It is at the beginning stages right now, but as the season goes on, I believe it will keep improving. He believes that the toughest opponents the team will face this year are either Bakersfield Christian High School or Bakersfield High School. He states, “Bakerfield High School just recently got their new program, and they are well known for their team around Bakerfield. Especially Bakerfield Christian, they have pretty lengthy players, and they are also well known for their team.”
Junior Josiah Frink has been playing basketball at Ridgeview for three years now. He was inspired by his older brother to attend the school. According to Frink, “When I was in eighth grade, I used to sneak into the gym after school and get shots up with my brother, and those were some of my favorite moments…That is what made me want to come here.” His motivation also comes from his brother always pushing him to be the best he can be. As captain this year, Frink wants to set a good example for the younger people on his team. One of his personal goals this season is to prove that anyone looking down on Ridgeview basketball is wrong. A few of his strengths on the court are being able to outjump most players, which makes him a great asset for the team, as he can easily get rebounds and dunk. Something Frink is really excited to do this year is “show the talent my Lord and Savior has blessed me with.” He believes that everyone on the team sharpens each other and has a lot of potential. Some advice he gives is to always put God first.
Coach Michael Martin has been coaching at Ridgeview for many years now. He notes that the team is really young this year, but he believes they can still get the job done if they push hard. The goal the coach has for the team this season is to go out every night and compete. He wants his players to enjoy their experience playing for him and to stay on track to graduate. He also notes that the team is younger, but it won’t stop them from showcasing the potential they have to do great things this season. Coach Martin states, “I we can stay healthy, we should be able to go far…We should do well enough to stay in Division 3 and really complete.
Overall, Ridgeview Boys’ basketball is looking forward to having a great season. Despite the challenges of beating Bakersfield Christian High School and their age, they have a lot of potential to do great things this year.
