When I first started watching the 2026 Olympics, I expected exciting and fun competitions, inspiring athletes and unforgettable moments . Instead, I felt like the games were surprisingly chaotic. While there were definitely amazing performances, I think the overall experience felt more disorganized and stressful than the Olympics usually do. Rather than focusing only on the sports, it sometimes seemed like the problems surrounding the games were getting just as much attention.
One reason for this was the games were spread across multiple cities in northern Italy, including Milan and Cortina d’ampezzo. Because events were happening in different places it seemed confusing for fans and even for athletes who had to travel between venues. I think everything happens in one main host city. This would make the schedule easier to follow and cut down between them more easily and focus more on the competitions instead of transportation issues.
Another issue that added to the chaos was the travel disruptions at the beginning of the games. There were sabotage attacks on parts of Italy’s railway system that caused huge delays for thousands of travelers trying to get to olympic venues. Around 40,000 passengers experienced cancellations or delays that lasted for hours. Hearing about these problems made the whole event more stressful for athletes and fans who were just trying to attend the competitions.
Even the opening ceremony felt unusual. For the first time in the Winter olympic history, two olympic cauldrons were at the same time in different cities. While some people thought it was creative, I felt like it added the confusion of the games being split between locations. Even with these issues, there were still many great moments. Athletes from around the world competed and showed incredible dedication and talent. Watching competitors who spent years training for this moment is always inspiring.
In terms of visibility, the chaos of the games seemed to shift attention away from the athletes themselves at times due to frequent discussions on things like travel issues, security concerns and transportation delays rather than just competition. The olympic games is typically about celebrating sports as well as promoting world unity, therefore, it can sometimes be difficult to keep your focus on these positive moments when you’re confronted with all the issues surrounding the games.
There were many incredible experiences at the games despite the many challenges. Athletes from across the globe put forth impressive effort and displayed great talent while competing. Countless athletes devoted time and energy for years just to compete on an Olympic stage. It was inspiring to observe so many athletes receive the rewards of their effort performed at a high level with emotional victories or for their outstanding performance.
However the travel issues and the events being spread across different cities made the 2026 Olympics feel less organized than past Games. In my opinion, future Olympics should focus more on keeping things simple so the athletes and their performances can truly be the center of attention.
