If you’re looking for a new place in Bakersfield to hang out, eat something sweet, and basically destroy any plans of eating healthy, Sweet’s Bite and Ice is honestly one of the top dessert spots to try right now. I went there with a couple of friends after school because it kept showing up on everyone’s Snapchat stories, and after going, I totally get why people won’t stop talking about it.  

  The first thing that hits you when you walk up is the smell. It’s this mix of chocolate, sugar, strawberries, and warm fried dough that basically feels like being hugged by a dessert. Even though the place was kind of packed, the workers were still super friendly and patient with us while we tried to figure out what we wanted. And trust me choosing is literally a struggle because the menu is HUGE. They’ve got everything: crepes, deep-fried Oreos, churros, funnel cakes, crazy giant milkshakes, and a ton of fruity desserts too.    

 But what really grabbed my attention were the Dubai chocolate-covered strawberries. They’re covered in smooth chocolate, pistachio, and these fancy drizzles that make them look like something from a luxury dessert page. So instead of getting a funnel cake or something fried like my friends, I decided to try them.    

 Let me just say they were amazing. The chocolate was super rich, the pistachio added this fancy flavor, and the strawberries were fresh and juicy. They were honestly so pretty I felt kind of bad eating them, but obviously I still did. They taste like something you’d get from a super upscale dessert   

   The prices at Sweet’s Bite and Ice are definitely on the higher side. You’ll probably spend more than you expect, especially if you’re used to regular snack-shop prices. The Dubai strawberries alone cost way more than normal chocolate-covered strawberries anywhere else. Pretty much everything on the menu is priced like that the crazy milkshakes, the crepes, the funnel cakes, all of it. Yes, the portions are big and the desserts look super fancy, but your wallet definitely feels it.  

 My friends kept joking that we should’ve just split something because buying everything individually adds up fast. It’s one of those places where you kind of stand there after ordering like,  You definitely get good quality, but it’s not the kind of place you go when you’re trying to save money. It’s more like a “treat yourself” place for when you’re celebrating something or just feel like splurging.     

Overall, Sweet’s Bite and Ice is a super fun dessert place with really good food, but you definitely need to be prepared to spend more than you think. The Dubai chocolate-covered strawberries were totally worth trying at least once they were delicious, looked amazing, and made me feel like I was eating something way fancier than I could ever make at home. If you haven’t gone yet, I’d still recommend it, just maybe don’t go on a day when you’re trying to be financially responsible.
