If you’ve ever wished your drink could taste like candy, Dutch Bros might have the perfect thing for you. Recently, they started offering something called the Sour Patch Straw, and it’s definitely one of the more interesting drink add-ons I’ve seen. Instead of a normal plastic straw, it’s actually a whole edible candy straw that tastes like Sour Patch candy. You can sip your drink through it and then eat the straw afterward.
When I first got it, it honestly looked more like candy than something you would drink through. The whole straw is made of chewy candy and coated in sour sugar. It’s bright, colorful, and definitely stands out compared to a normal straw. At first I wasn’t sure if it would actually work, but it does. I tried it with a Palm Beach Rebel, which is one of Dutch Bros’ energy drinks with peach and pomegranate flavors. When you take your first sip through the candy straw, the sour sugar hits right away. It’s really strong at first, with that classic sour-then-sweet taste you get from Sour Patch candy. After the sour kick, the sweetness mixes with the fruity flavors of the drink.
With the Palm Beach Rebel, the combination actually worked really well. Since the drink is already fruity, the sour candy flavor just made it taste even more like a candy drink. The peach and pomegranate flavors mixed with the sour sugar, and it honestly tasted like a sour b candy version of the drink. If you like sour candy or sweet drinks, it’s a really fun combo.
One thing I noticed is that the flavor is strongest at the beginning. After a while, the sour sugar starts to dissolve a little bit as the drink goes through the straw. The straw still works, but the
sour flavor gets less intense over time. Even after the sour coating fades, the straw itself is still candy, so you can just eat it when you’re done with your drink.
Another cool thing about the Sour Patch Straw is that you can technically use it with almost any drink. It probably works best with fruity drinks like Rebels, lemonades, or iced teas because the sour candy flavor fits better with those. Using it with coffee might be a little strange, since sour candy and coffee don’t really seem like they would go together, but if you like experimenting it could still be fun to try. If you’re already stopping by Dutch Bros after school, it’s definitely worth trying at least once. The prices range from like 7-9 dollars depending on the size of drink you get and the type of drink you get. It’s sweet, sour, a little messy, and honestly just fun to drink through and eating the straw at the end might be the best part.
